A first birthday is a bitter-sweet milestone in your baby’s life. A common way to document and celebrate this big chapter is by having a photography session!
Whether you’ve booked your cake smash or are planning to, this is the place to be. I’ll guide you through the process! Let’s go through the who-what-when-and-where of a cake smash session.

For the sake of this article, we are referring specifically to babies celebrating their first birthdays. While your session is primarily to focus on your sweet one, I am happy to include a family photo, as well.
So what is a cake smash? Basically, it’s just a fun photo shoot where your baby can go bananas on a cake, donuts, cookies, or other edible items. Some people prefer to have a more traditional session without a cake, and that’s perfectly fine!
If you’re unsure what theme/color scheme you’d like, a good place to start is by creating a Pinterest board. I will never copy another person’s set-up, but seeing where your head it will help me design the perfect set for your little one.

For allergy-related reasons, I do not provide the cake or topper. However, there are several local bakeries that make beautiful desserts, such as Lorenzo’s Bakery and Simply Cakes by Ellie.
I provide the entire set-up, including props and cake stand. Let me know if there is a prop you’d like to bring so I can plan accordingly.
I try to schedule these in the 11th month. This allows parents to have their images back in time to print before baby’s birthday!

I mostly use my studio in the mornings, especially when photographing children. They tend to be in better moods in the morning. If you think a certain time of day is better for your little one, that’s fine! This is discussed during the booking process.
My studio is located at 51. N Centre Street in Cumberland, and I have dedicated parking right around back. I also offer outdoor cake smashes during the warmer months!

After booking, my clients and I start to plan a customized cake smash specifically for their babies. If you’re ready to book, let’s do it!
